【词汇辨析】
在英语中表示“废物、垃圾”的单词有不少，比如waste、garbage、rubbish等。怎么区分使用呢？下面请看：
waste 普通用词，概念广泛，指任何被丢弃的东西。
garbage 主要指有机废料，包括厨房的剩菜剩饭或不能再用的食物（腐肉杂物）等，也可以泛指各类生活垃圾。
rubbish 普通用词，指任何成堆的、破损的、用过的或无用的东西。
trash 主要指废弃的纸、硬纸板和干物质。
litter 是四处乱丢物品的总称，尤指散落于地，有碍观瞻的废物，例如随手丢弃的纸屑、果皮等。
debris 着重指分解、分裂或破坏后剩下的碎片，也指零散的普通废品。
refuse 亦指所有固体废料、阴沟残余，甚至于遗弃的车辆、冰箱等。
