UFO sightings at an airport in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, have forced the airport to shut down in order to prevent passenger planes crashing into a UFO, according to reports. Three flights from Shanghai and Beijing were apparently forced to circle the airport until the “UFO” disappeared. Two other flights were diverted away from the area to the nearby cities of Ordos and Taiyuan. The airport was closed for an hour "to guarantee safety" according to a spokesman. YouTube has a video showing a black night with small lights flitting over the sky. While there is no denying the airport closure, the validity of the video cannot be verified. Witnesses reported a bright light shining in the sky on September 11 a short distance away from Baotou airport, before vanishing. The incident was one of a number of reported UFO sightings in China since the end of June. Xiaoshan International airport near the eastern city of Hangzhou was shut down on July 8 because of a UFO sighting, although officials later confirmed the object sighted above the airport had been part of a military test at a nearby airbase. In the far-western province of Xinjiang, another sighting on June 30 is thought to have been a missile test. A number of sightings in Sichuan province may also be linked to the local custom of flying illuminated kites at night. These sightings coincide with an increase of UFO activity reported across the world. Some analysts say they are linked to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, others think there are more other-worldy causes.
