　　完整的故事架构
　　在新绝代双骄的故事里，发展到江小鱼打跑了活阎王后被恶赌鬼轩辕三光救出为止。这个段落是以喜剧收场，但是故事还没说完呢。究竟小鱼儿情归何处？小鱼儿与花无缺之间的真实关系为何？故事又有那些发展？这些问题都可以在新绝代双骄２里找到答案。此外，新绝代双骄２会是一个完整而可以独立执行的游戏，并不需要新绝代双骄的光盘才能执行。
　　在古龙原著中，第一女主角苏樱的风采无人能敌。巧笑倩兮、智计过人的她，面对现任霸主小辣椒张菁、藕断丝连的铁心兰时，如何巧使连环计降服小鱼儿狂野的心？又大侠燕南天与移花宫主最后一战的结果为何？小鱼儿与花无缺如何打开兄弟相残的死结等，所有新绝代双骄的故事将会在游戏中作出合理之交代，并提供完整多线的结局。
发散式多重结局
　　在原著小说里其实提供许许多多的材料，例如怜星宫主有可能透露出花无缺的身世之谜、苏樱究竟在几杯酒中下毒等，都变成良好的分支路线题材，先后制作在游戏中了。除此之外，受限于小说只能提供一种结局的缺憾，游戏中会将所有古龙伏笔处合理之结局都设定在游戏里，让玩者以小鱼儿或花无缺的身份来解破谜题，找出各种破台的方法。
　　
因为游戏将制成多线式的玩法，即使玩者没有使用小说里结局所使用诈死的方法来骗过怜星邀月，还是有可能找出别种方法来完成游戏。举例来说，铁心兰会恳求花无缺在决斗时放水败给小鱼儿，如果玩者进行小鱼儿线时没有找到适切的方法时，在决斗时花无缺就会中招身亡，怜星邀月也会高兴的(地)将隐藏了二十年的秘密说出来，成为一种普通的结局。
　　影响游戏最终结局的要素很多，除了正确地找对人进行适当的行动外，主角的武功进展、药材修链、对话技巧与目前对您好感度最高的女主角都会对结局产生影响；单纯就结局种类来说就有十种以上，加上女主角不同的变化，可以玩到的结局变化约有30种左右。
自由选择进入点
　　游戏的进行采取双主角制，在游戏中还有两次机会可以选择改为扮演另一位主角。花无缺线会由童年时期开始进行游戏，然后离开移花宫找寻江小鱼，一路由恶人谷追到峨嵋山遇见铁心兰，然后在千凤林武林大会中揭破江别鹤阴谋为止，进入第一次交叉选择。而小鱼儿线则是从千凤林之后开始，一路上在江湖闯荡冒险，直到遇见第一女主角苏樱为止。此处也是最后一次选择两位主角的时刻，一路上壮大自己并试图揭破移花宫主的秘密，然后根据先前的冒险闯出独一无二的结局。
　　如果选择小鱼儿来进行游戏，会略过花无缺的幼年阶段而从第一次交叉点开始进行游戏，这对于已经玩过绝代双骄的人来说如同是延续先前的剧情，可以视为是江小鱼的标准攻略路线。
资料传送
　　新绝代双骄２将可以读取新绝代双骄的存档。若是您还保有新绝代双骄存档，把最强武装与装配物件放置到小鱼儿的身上，将之传送到新绝代双骄２继续进行游戏。传送过来的小鱼儿会保留全部的装备，甚至是新绝代双骄２中无法正常取得的物品，而小鱼儿的属性会视情况做调整，所以您未必要使用破台的存档，而是留下最佳装备的存档。
　　某些武功心法在绝代双骄２时可能已经失传了，如果您的小鱼儿是靠传送过来的人物则仍然能保有这些武学心法，成为游戏里唯一会使用这些绝技的高手。绝代双骄２里会增加数十种新的武功与心法，而原先保留的武功心法可以修练的层数也会往上再调升，所以不论您的角色是新创的或传送过来的，都不必担心这个世界里没有足够的武学可供修练，反而要想清楚应该如何分配武功密笈给最适当的人选。
快速系统
　　为了增加游戏的流畅度，在新绝代双骄２里做了一些调整，最大的影响是增快游戏的读取时间和降低抽换光盘的次数，尽量让这些存取的动作不致影响到游戏的进行。基于同样的理念，现在您所扮演的角色只要曾经把城镇内都走过一遍后，就可以利用功能表里的小地图进行跳跃，直接抵达您想要去的地点，而不必再虚耗时间晃到目的地了。
　　新绝代双骄２一样保留了可以自行选择的战斗系统，若是您使用即时战斗系统时感到武功招式与物品的排列方式不如己意时，不如就在战斗前手动调整出自己喜欢的排列方式，让您在战斗中争取到足以扭转胜负的时间。而在野外，独具功效的药草会在被摘取后的一定时间里再度重生，而这些特别的药草又往往无法在城镇里购得，值得您记下这些珍贵地点的位置。在新绝代双骄２里调制药剂的比重将比前一代来的多上许多，甚至部份的结局还会因为主角的药草知识相当足够才能达成，请千万留意。
偷拐抢骗、尔虞我诈的战斗
　　基本上江小鱼与花无缺属于个性完全不同的人物，他们两人的特殊技巧也大不相同。江小鱼滑溜灵活、说话毒辣，旁门左道样样精通，在遭遇敌人时可以偷取敌人的物品、或是凭三寸不烂之舌来骗取别人的物品。花无缺则是品性纯正，后天又压抑自己的情感，凡事讲究规规矩矩、按步就班的来办。某些敌人会因为花无缺是位大侠而感到钦佩或是害怕，因而乖乖地奉上所携带的物品，如同江小鱼使用偷窃效果一般。
　　您的队友有可能是名门正派的荷露、小仙女，或是大侠燕南天、江南大侠江别鹤，也有可能是喜好偷窥的黑蜘蛛、无赌不欢的轩辕三光、甚至是没练过武功的苏樱，这些队员都有一些独一无二的绝技与忿怒技可以使用。例如苏樱就拥有许多威力强大的诡技，在对付魔王级敌人时超级好用，但平时碰上小喽罗时就显得乏善可陈；如果您能活用各种非正统特技于战场之上，相信您会充份体会出这套游戏系统为您带来的乐趣。
